KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- One of Kalamazoo’s longest serving Commission members won’t be back for another term.
Vice Mayor Hannah McKinney’s succinct announcement that she will not be running for reelection this fall at last night’s city commission meeting was not a surprise, but it appeared to momentarily catch Mayor Hopewell off guard. '
After serving eight 2-year terms on the Kalamazoo City commission, one of them as Mayor, McKinney says she will be retiring from politics.
She is an economics professor at Kalamazoo College and has helped the city navigate its way through some tough financial times.
She is the first of the incumbents to announce they aren’t running this fall and may not be the last.
