DETROIT, MI (WTVB) - The roar returns to the Detroit River this weekend for the running of 104th APBA Gold Cup. The event features races for vintage boats, super light tunnel boats and unlimited hydroplanes which can reach speeds of nearly 200 miles per hour. Today is free Friday, which gives fans a chance to watch testing and qualifying for unlimited hydroplanes. Tomorrow, heats will be held for all classes of boats and on Sunday afternoon the hydroplane finals will be run, with the winner taking home the APBA Gold Cup, the oldest active trophy in all of motor sports.
