The Crossroads in Portage was evacuated without incident after what police are calling a hoax.

PORTAGE (WKZO) -- They evacuated the Crossroads first, after what Portage Police are calling a hoax. They say it appears to be a case of “SWATTING”.  The first call purported to be from a member of the family reportedly called 9-1-1 at about 8:15, saying the man was “going to shoot the place up”. They believe that all the calls came from the suspect.

They found the suspect's car at the Crossroads and so they initiated an evacuation.

Portage Police say in a press release that they began to get a volley of calls, one claiming there were already three dead bodies, another threatening an apartment complex with an armed attack.  .

At approximately 9:30 p.m. a Portage officer spotted the suspect walking along Schuring Rd. near Oakland drive.  They found his dismantled cell phone near by.

22-year-old Mitchell Collin Meister  was taken into custody. .

On July 13, 2013, the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office reviewed the case and authorized two felony charges against Meister for making a False Report or Threat of Terrorism and Resisting and Obstructing Police.

Meister is currently being held at the Kalamazoo County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
