LANSING (WKZO) -- Republican Congressman Tim Walberg of Tipton will face a challenger in the 2014 election. MIRS News is reporting that former Representative Pam Byrnes will challenge Walberg for his 7th District congressional seat.
The 66-year-old Democratic candidate previously chaired the House Transportation Committee during her three terms in the U.S. House, and ran unsuccessfully for the Michigan Senate in 2010. In a statement, Byrnes accuses Walberg of putting special interests and corporations ahead of middle-class Michigan families, and claims she has a track record of bipartisan work aimed at helping the middle-class.
Walberg first won his seat in 2006, only to lose to current Democratic candidate for governor Mark Schauer in 2008, but he won his seat back in 2010 and retained it during the 2012 election. He last won by 53-percent to 43-percent, which gives some Democrats hope they can unseat Walberg in 2014.
