CHELSEA, MI (WTVB) - A former State House Representative from Chelsea said today she would be a democratic challenger next year to 3-term Michigan 7th District GOP Congressman Tim Walbeg. MIRS reports that the announcement was made by 66-year old Pam Byrnes, a former House Speaker Pro Tem who ran unsuccessfully for the state Senate in 2010. The attorney who chaired the House Transportation Committee during her three terms in the House said Washington is broken and that Tim Walberg is part of the problem. Byrnes charged that Walberg puts special interests and corporations ahead of middle class Michigan families.
Walberg first won his seat in 2006, lost in 2008 to Mark Schauer and gained it back from Schauer in the Republican wave 2010 election and retained it in 2012 against opposition that was not financially backed by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. The 7th District includes Branch, Hillsdale, Jackson, Lenawee, Eaton, Monroe and parts of Washtenaw County.
