The Tigers avoided a 3-game sweep by the Royals with a 4-to-1 win yesterday afternoon at Kansas City. Doug Fister tossed six innings of one-run ball to earn the victory, keeping first place Detroit a game-and-a-half in front of the second place Indians in the American League Central. Two of the Tiger’s runs came on solo homers as Miguel Cabrera belted his 31st while Andy Dirks lifted his seventh for Detroit. Joaquin Benoit locked up his ninth save in as many opportunities.
The Tigers road trip continues tonight when they open a 4-game series in Chicago against the White Sox, who won yesterday at home 3-to-1 over the Braves. And the Cubs lost 4-to-3 at Colorado.
