Brewers' Ryan Braun suspended for rest of the season, Peralta still part of PED investigation

Some say baseball is taking a beating with more yet to come with Monday’s announcement from the Commissioner’s office that former National League MVP Ryan Braun was suspended Monday without pay for the rest of the season and the postseason for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs. The Milwaukee Brewers outfielder has accepted the penalty and will be absent for the final 65 games of the season, costing him 3-and-a quarter million dollars.

Braun has been among a handful of players, including Tiger’s shortstop Jhonny Peralta, who have been under investigation for ties to Biogenesis, a closed anti-aging clinic in Florida linked with the distribution of PEDs. The 29-year-old Braun tested positive for elevated testosterone levels in 2012, but successfully appealed his fifty game suspension when an independent arbitrator ruled his test sample had been improperly handled.
