PORTAGE (WKZO) -- The Portage Board of education has picked a new Superintendent and were ready to move on, but it appears there is one piece of old business to settle first.
Former Portage Supt. Ric Perry is suing the Portage Trustees for forcing him out of his job. He claims they were not justified despite an arbitrator’s ruling that the board had several valid reasons for ending his employment.
Included among the reasons, the arbitrator cited an alleged affair with his Human Resources Director.
In their response to the lawsuit, Portage Schools says both the District and Dr. Perry were contractually bound to arbitration, and both agreed to let Peter Houk, who they say has a stellar reputation, settle their differences.
The district says their legal council has reviewed the allegations in the suit and say they lack merit.
They say they will vigorously defend themselves from the lawsuit brought by Dr. Perry.
