ANN ARBOR, MI (WTVB) - Should there be a law against smoking when kids are in the car? Most adults think it’s a good idea. A University of Michigan poll shows 82 percent support a ban when children under 13 are riding in the vehicle. The National Poll on Children's Health also indicates 60 percent of smokers support the ban. At this time, only seven states, including Illinois, have such laws on the books. Michigan has no such law. An earlier study by researchers at Harvard showed "alarming" levels of secondhand smoke are generated in only five minutes under certain driving conditions.
