DEARBORN (WKZO) -- A mistake by the Michigan Department of Corrections left a convicted sex offender off a list used by police to keep track of offenders.
Lavere Bryant is accused of killing two employees of the Family Dollar Store in Dearborn last week.
Bryant was convicted of sexual assault charges and ordered to be put on the sex offender list in 1999.
After serving a second jail sentence, Department of Corrections officials say information about his status was left off his record when he was released two years ago.
Bryant has never checked in with police as required by law and would have been a target of officers had his name been on the checklist used by police to track offenders.
