COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - 4,185 little yellow rubber ducks hit the water Saturday afternoon to mark the 20th annual Great Hospice Duck Race in Coldwater. Dean Sullivan's duck came first across the finish line on the Sauk River, earning him the top prize of $2,013 in cash, donated by the Dutcher Funeral Home and Dutcher-Kolcz Funeral Home. The second place finisher was a duck adopted by Dr's Brady, Grife, and Koyl, who won a 7 day all-inclusive camping adventure donated by Haylett's Auto and RV and Waffle Farms Campground. There were prizes for the first 46 finishers.
The ducks were sold for $5 each. Additional money was raised Saturday at Waterworks Park through the sale of food, a silent auction, and kids games. All the proceeds from the duck race go to the Community Health Center of Branch County's Hospice Services for patient care.
