COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - A new, more user friendly jury pool selection system is coming to Branch County this fall. The Centralized Jury Pool method was previewed yesterday for County Commissioners by Branch County Circuit Court Judge Bill O’Grady. The judge said the number of questionnaires will be reduced by 500 over a 2-year period while jury members will be divided into 10 panels, 250 jurors per term. According to O’Grady, this will result in 160 less people a year needing to serve with the panels reporting for trials during their term for the Circuit, Probate, and District Courts.
The judge said with the panels reporting on a rotating basis, it will minimize an individual’s time of being a juror and reduce the impact that service has on families, employers, daycare needs and other family issues. The new jury panel system is set to begin on October First.
