Schuette applauds passage of bills

LANSING (WKZO) -- The Michigan Senate has approved two bills aimed at improving public safety.

The "OK-2-SAY" bill includes an education program aimed at preventing violence before it happens and encourages the sharing of confidential tips between students, parents, school officials and law enforcement agencies.  Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette says the bill creates an important early warning system to prevent tragedies in schools and communities.

The Senate also approved a bill to provide four-million dollars to test thousands of unprocessed rape kits from the City of Detroit.  The funding comes from settlement money received by Schuette's office from fines and litigation.
