AUSTIN, TEXAS (WKZO) -- The Sunseeker Team has concluded the first day of racing in the Texas heat in the Formula Sun Grand Prix in first place, with two more days of racing to go.
WMU’s Solar car finished second in “scrutineering”, that is the pre-race inspection for safety and engineering.
After going thru three drivers and three sets of tires in the first day, they are in first place, but the race remains close and any accident or calamity or systems failure could cost them the lead or worse.
They are competing against a dozen other engineering schools at a closed track near Austin, Texas.
The team that completes the largest number of laps over three days takes the trophy. So far they also have the fastest single lap, which is another accomplishment that could earn a trophy, if they can hang onto it.
