KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo City Manager Ken Collard isn’t expected to take advantage of the city’s early retirement offer until the end of the year.
That has often been suggested as the deadline for finding a new City Manager, but the actual deadline comes well in advance of that, in early November before Election Day for the next City Commission.
It’s generally felt that the most experienced Commissioners; the ones who have been with the process since the beginning are in the best position to judge who would make the best City Manager.
So far only Commissioner Bob Cinabro has committed to running again, and while other incumbents are also expected to jump into the race, some say they still haven’t made up their minds.
The Commission just selected a new search firm on Friday, and the election is just over four months away. The decision to "reboot" the search has put them behind their original schedule. Mayor Bobby Hopewell says he hopes to move the process along to meet that deadline. .
