DETROIT, MI (WKZO) -- General Motors is being honored by the Michigan Audubon Society for its effort to help keep down the number of bird deaths at the Renaissance Center. 

GM officials have been encouraging their workforce to keep their lights off as much as possible during spring and fall migration times.  Detroit is located in the middle of a flight path birds take and some often fly into well-lit buildings at night.  General Motors manages approximately 25-hundred acres of wildlife habitats worldwide and has participated in the Safe Passage Great Lakes program for several years.
