DETROIT, MI (WKZO) -- Detroit City officials have some hard decisions to make this week about their future.

Detroit Mayor Dave Bing says he disagrees with the Governor’s decision to appoint an Emergency Financial Manager for the city. 

In a recorded message the mayor again called for cooperation between the state and the city to address the issues together.

But even the residents of Detroit are beginning to lose patience with their own city Government.

Mayor Bing and the Detroit City Council have ten days to appeal the governor's ruling. Governor Snyder says he has a “top notch” candidate picked to be Detroit’s new Emergency Financial Manager, setting off a lot of speculation on who that may be.

A lot of the emergency managers the state has assigned so far have been former City Managers, like Kalamazoo’s Robert Bobb, who took over the Detroit Schools, and Former Portage Manager Mike Stampfler, who was assigned to the city of Flint.

The EFM would likely slash the city’s workforce, perhaps privatize some city departments and sell off some of its assets, things that unions and city politics have prevented from happening.
