JACKSON, MI (WKZO) --    The Sheriff in Jackson County says he will be making grief counselors available to his staff after the 4-year-old son of one of his deputies shot himself with a handgun on Saturday evening.  State Police have taken over the investigation.  Right now they aren’t sure how the boy got his hands on the gun. 

Deputy Mark Easter was reportedly on his way to work, and the toddler was at his Jackson Street home with his mother at the time of the deadly shooting.

Those who know him call Easter a great father and a great deputy, someone who would not allow this to happen intentionally, and are calling the death of the boy a tragic accident.
