LANSING (WKZO) -- Michigan marinas would soon be able to obtain low-interest loans to dredge their harbors under legislation before the state Senate. Senator John Proos of St. Joseph is among the co-sponsors of the bill and says it being offered in addition to the 21.5-million lawmakers are trying to come with for county and local governments for dredging.
Proos says Michigan's billion-dollar tourism industry is reliant upon recreational marinas, and with Lakes Michigan and Huron at near record-low levels, dredging money is badly needed.
