Battani says Federal Budget problems will eventually cause problems locally

KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO) -- Just back from a National Conference for County officials, Kalamazoo County Administrator Peter Battani says Washington’s budget woes could soon become their own financial headaches as a lot of federally funded programs could soon see their resources cut further.

Battani says they heard from Barry Anderson who administered the last two federal sequesters back in the 90’s, and they had some grim news. He warned the county officials that the high water mark for federal spending on county programs had been reached and it would all be downhill from here.  He says the sequester is just this spring’s problem.  The longer term problem is still a massive federal debt.  Battani says it’s going to take years to play out.
