CENTREVILLE, MI (WTVB) - A corrections officer in the St. Joseph County Jail could find himself spending some time behind bars after he pled guilty to two misdemeanor charges. 39-year-old Steven Morris was caught stealing the painkiller Tramadol from the clinic in the jail in early January. The plea-bargain means that he won’t have to face trial on two felony charges and risk much stiffer sentences. He was originally charged with two counts of larceny in a building.
The St Joseph County prosecutor plans to ask that he be barred from ever working in law enforcement again at sentencing, which is set for April 8th.
Morris had been on administrative leave without pay since his arrest.
