Colon Cancer Awareness Month

UNDATED (WKZO) --  It’s Colon Cancer awareness month, but you won’t see special ribbons or NFL players and high school basketball teams wearing pink like they do for Breast Cancer.

Dr. John Marshall thinks it deserves as much if not more attention because it’s a bigger killer, and early detection is the also the key to survival.   He says the mantra has been, turn 50 and get a colonoscopy, but he says they are finding it in younger and younger people.

Sgt. Kim Doran, a police officer got to stage-4 before it was detected in her, when she was just 43, and only a battery of treatments, and what Drs. say was a great spirit has kept her from succumbing to the disease.

The CDC guideline remains a colonoscopy at age 50, but African Americans and folks with a family history may not want to wait until then.
