LANSING (WKZO) -- Emergency dredging is a step closer to happening in Michigan's ports and harbors.
The state House has approved legislation waiving required public hearings before dredge projects begin and cutting the permit fees. The House will take up a bill next week to spend 21-million dollars on the effort, which has already passed the state Senate.
Lakes Michigan and Huron dropped to record-low levels this winter.
