KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo City Commissioners will receive ordinance language tonight that proposes that the city adopt the state rules for proper transport of marijuana. There is apparently a right way and a wrong way to do it. The legal way is to put it in a closed container and carry it in the truck, where it can’t be accessed while the car is being driven. If the car doesn’t have a trunk, it must be enclosed in a case that is not readily available from the interior of the vehicle.
City Attorney Clyde Robinson says such violations are usually part of a case that involves multiple charges, and by adopting the state language the city won’t have to turn prosecution for this particular charge over to the County Prosecutor. It’s just more efficient.
Robinson also notes that the state spells marihuana with an “h”, and not a “j”. Commissioners will be asked to accept it for first reading, and if there are no major issues, vote on it at their next meeting.
