LANSING (WKZO) -- Despite a drop in the number of traffic accidents last year, traffic fatalities were up by five-percent over 2011.

Teen traffic fatalities dropped by 14-percent while alcohol related traffic deaths were up by three-percent. Traffic fatalities involving drugs increased by six-percent.

Even though the number of fatalities increased last year, 2012 marks the fifth year in a row there were fewer than one-thousand traffic deaths.  Ten years earlier there were nearly 1,300.
