KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region is exceeding its goals.
President and CEO Mike Larson says the campaigns have raised more than 15.7-million dollars, surpassing its 15.35-million dollar goal. The Battle Creek campaign raised 6.1-million dollars while the Kalamazoo campaign brought in 9.6-million, both blowing past their fundraising goals.
The organization was formed in a merger last year of the two campaigns and seeks to raise funds for community needs in education, income, and health. Previous mergers of campaigns have actually seen decreases in fundraising.
In a press release, Larson says "Once again, the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo region proves it’s the generous and compassionate exception to the rule."
