KALAMAZO, MI (WKZO) -- Tenants displaced by a fire at Woodstone Apartments in Parkview Hills have been allowed to briefly return to their units to grab some essentials, retrieve medications, and rescue their pets but it’s not clear when or if they will be able to move back in.
The first Public Safety officers on the scene just before midnight Friday saw flames coming through the roof, but they were able to confine the fire to one unit. The entire building had to be evacuated, and remains vacant because the utilities are shut off.
The Red Cross is helping to provide temporary shelter to a few of the 60 residents but most have found their own alternative accommodations.
There were no reports of injury, and the initial investigation suggests it was an electrical problem that sparked the fire, but the Fire Marshal is investigating.
