PORTAGE MI (WKZO) -- It turned out to be a big event to kick off the Easter Week, bigger than even organizers expected. An Easter Egg Hunt in Portage drew more youngsters than have ever participated before. Marie Billen with the Kalamazoo Area Runners Club says was designed to provide a dual benefit. Toddlers hunted for eggs in an enclosed playground.
Children over 5 did their egg hunting along a mile long route that trailed thru the woods behind Portage West Middle School.
Fortunately the Easter Bunny was on hand to help out any children who weren’t quite quick enough to get to the brightly colored eggs spread out in the grass.
After the big hunt there were treats and door prizes.
Families were also asked to bring along canned goods to contribute to Loaves and Fishes.
