Last summer for Coldwater's Heritage Park pool?

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Coldwater City manager Jeff Budd last night laid out for the City Council the planned changes for the operation of the Heritage Park swimming pool this coming summer, the last summer for the pool that’s been enjoyed since 1974. The outdoor pool will be giving way next year to the new Brown indoor aquatic center, which will require city maintenance and upkeep expenditures beyond the $11,000,000 gift from Brown for the swimming facility and expansion of the Independence Recreation Center.

Budd said that’s why the city intends to reduce expenses this summer for the Heritage pool and for starters, the opening day will be Saturday, June 15th, rather than the usual Memorial Day weekend opening.  Also, the pool slide will have reduced hours, saving staffing costs and the pool won’t be open unless the air temperature reaches at least 72 degrees. When it’s cooler than that, attendance at the pool has historically been low. The City Council gave its approval to the changes and also learned the city will be moving forward with a proposal to commission plans and obtain cost estimates to convert the Heritage pool area into a spray park.
