LANSING, MI (WTVB) - Michigan's unemployment rate slipped in February one-tenth of a percentage point to 8.8%, according to state numbers released today. The national unemployment rate was 7.7% Total state employment increased by 15,000 from January to February while unemployment decreased by 3,000. The state's labor force rose by 11,000 in February, according to the Department of Technology, Management and Budget. The February 2013 rate is down from the 9.1% percent rate notched in February 2012. The Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives says several major industry sectors have recorded moderate job gains in early 2013 including professional and business services, education, health services and retail trade.
