Agama’s Facebook post has some party members calling for his resignation

UNDATED (WKZO) --  It’s hard to imagine an action that would prompt conservative Republicans to come to the defense of gays, but Republican National Committeeman Dave Agema managed to find it by republishing an anti-gay rant on his facebook page written by another author.

Purportedly written by Dr. Frank Joseph, it portrays homosexuals as filthy and contends that half the murders in urban areas are perpetrated by gays.

It’s prompted a number of Michigan Republicans to call for Agama’s resignation, saying while they may disagree with the gay lifestyle, it hurts the party to be associated with bigotry and hate speech.

The party leadership, including Bobby Shostack and Jace Bolger are calling for civility, saying while the GOP supports traditional marriage it does not support hate or discrimination toward anyone.

Agema told the Detroit Free Press that the call for his resignation is “a joke” and that he thought the article was worth re-posting because of the current debate at the Supreme Court. He says it did not necessarily represent his beliefs.
