COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - A new life saving business has set up shop in Coldwater, ready to help you or someone you know that might need to take a CPR class for work, school, or a volunteer position. CPR Michigan says it’s dedicated to providing serious training in a fun way for a variety of life saving classes. Owner and five year certified CPR instructor, Cheryl Covell opened the business last Fall in September.
She’s been a registered nurse at the Community Health Center of Branch County for 20 years and spotted a need for CPR classes in and around Branch County. Covell teaches the class with four other certified American Heart Association, registered nurses Helyn Castle, Janean Bignell, Pat Babjack, and Kristen Stout. It is a known fact that irreversible damage occurs after the first 4 - 6 minutes after cardiac arrest.
Proper training can teach partispants in the class to recognize the signs and symptoms of a heart attack, access the 911 system, and bridge the gap until emergency medical services arrive on the scene. The classes can be custom tailored to the needs of an industry or business. For healthcare workers, OSHA may require employees to be trained in Bloodborne Pathogen precautions which are one of the classes taught by CPR Michigan. Group rates are also available. Typical class size is 6-12 students per instructor and cost range is from $25 to $75 and includes the cost of the textbook.
