4 year old boy injured in accident- mother in jail for fleeing from police

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - A 4-year old boy was seriously injured in a one-car crash in Branch County with his mother facing child endangerment charges after being arrested for operating under the influence following the accident late yesterday afternoon in Butler Township. Michigan State Police say the 26-year old Tekonsha woman was behind the wheel of a mini-van that ended up in a ditch off Dean Road near Jonesville Road shortly before 6 p.m. The boy’s 2-year old sister was also injured and treated and released from the Community Health Center of Branch County.

State Police say she was in a child restraint seat and her brother was riding in a booster seat. The boy was flown from the hospital in Coldwater to Bronson hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment of possible head injuries. The mother was booked at the Branch County Jail on preliminary charges of OUI causing serious injury and 2 counts of child endangerment. Her name is being withheld pending arraignment in District Court.
