Denny Hamlin revealed on his Twitter account yesterday that he has been medically cleared to at least start Sunday’s Sprint Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway. Hamlin has missed the last four Sprint Cup races due to a compression fracture in his lower back, an injury he sustained during an accident on the final lap of the March 24th event in California. He will be able to start the race, thereby receiving the full points based on where the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing car finishes, but will be replaced by a yet to be determined driver some time during the race.
Hamlin has dropped from 10th to 28th in the point standings. Live coverage of the Aaron’s 499 from Talladega on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 begins at Noon Sunday.
