COVERT TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO) -- It’s now been revealed that the latest leak to shut down the Palisades nuclear plant was radio-active, and it ended up in Lake Michigan.
The NRC’s Victoria Mitlyng says 79-gallons escaped from the plant and drained into a catch-basin. She says it was greatly diluted before it was discharged into the lake.
One of the plant’s biggest critics, Kevin Kamps says this is the same tank leak that was running down the walls of the main control room when it was covered up last year. He says this tank flushes the main reactor during refueling, and picks up flecks of radioactive material.
He claims the NRC has permitted this tank of irradiated water to leak now for two years, and only acted when it gushed 90 gallons last Saturday. He wonders where all the other water it’s leaked has gone.
