The Tigers couldn’t come all the way back from an early four run deficit and lost 5-to-4 yesterday afternoon at Washington in a makeup of Tuesday night’s rainout. The National’s victory gave them a sweep of the short two game set and finished up Detroit’s 6-game road trip that started with a 4-game sweep at Houston.
Tonight, the Tigers open a 3-game series at Comerica Park against a hot Cleveland Indians team that has won 4 straight and ten of eleven. The Detroit defeat Thursday at Washington saw starter Doug Fister depart early after just 3 frames with 5 runs allowed in his first loss in five decisions this season.
Matt Tuiasosopo belted a three-run pinch-hit homer for the Tigers in the sixth inning but Detroit was blanked the rest of the way to slip to 19-13.
They still lead the American League Central by a half game over Kansas City and a game over the Indians.
The White Sox and Cubs were both idle on Thursday.
