COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - There is some movement with the ranks of the Coldwater Police Department. City Manager Jeff Budd reports that Nick Thornton has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Thornton has been with the City of Coldwater since August, 2001. He started his service as a patrol officer and had worked up through the rank of Corporal prior to this promotion. Sergeant Thornton is a military veteran who has served in active duty in both Iraq and Kosovo. And Deputy Public Safety Director Joe Scheid has completed his fire training. He has obtained his Firefighter I and II certifications. Scheid also earned his firefighter survival certification.

Meanwhile, Brent Somerlott has been hired as a part-paid firefighter. Like Scheid, he has also earned his Firefighter I and II and firefighter survival certifications.

In an unrelated matter, Budd’s City Manager’s report to the City Council includes a reminder that Heritage Park will be the site for the Civil War reenactment of two battles of Gettysburg. The events will start on Friday, May 24th and last through Sunday, May 26th with free admission to the event. For additional information you can visit their website at www.cwcwmi.com. Budd thanked the many volunteers and contributors who bring the event to Coldwater. And this year’s Memorial Day Activities in Coldwater kick off at the Four Corners Park downtown at 8:30 a.m.
