The Tigers last night cooled off the hottest team in the majors, getting the long ball from Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder to crunch Cleveland 10-to-4 in the opener of a 3-game series at Comerica Park.
The Indians arrived in Motown with 10 wins in their last 11 games but Detroit tamed the Tribe with a 15-hit attack that included Fielder’s 460-foot solo shot to right center and a 453-foot 3-run bomb by Cabrera to left center. For the season, in 33 games, Cabrera is hitting .382 with seven home runs and 40 RBI’s. Max Scherzer picked up the win to move to 5-and-0, striking out seven and allowing 4 runs over eight innings as the Tigers improved to 20-and-13. Detroit leads the American League Central by a game-and-a-half over Kansas City and 2 games over the Indians.
Tiger ace Justin Verlander goes to the mound tonight against the Indians. The White Sox lost to the Angels 7-to-5 last night in Chicago while the Cubs fell 7-to-3 to the Nationals in Washington
