Lee Brice celebrated his latest #1 hit, "I Drive Your Truck," at a party on Music Row in Nashville Monday, and a few special guests made the event even sweeter for him. The song was inspired by an interview with a man whose son, Jared , died while serving overseas in the military. The man told the interviewer he drove his son's truck to feel close to him, which in turn provided the story for "I Drive Your Truck." The man and his wife had no idea the song was based on their story until the songwriters called them up a few weeks ago.
Lee heard a recording of that conversation, and he says, "They were like, 'Oh man, this song! We feel like it, just like a million people, we feel like this song is just right out of our story.' And they were like, 'Well, it is you. It's your son.'"
As a way to thank them, Lee flew Jared's parents to Nashville to attend the #1 party.
Lee said before the party got started, "I'm as excited to meet them today as I am to get a plaque for a number one, you know what I mean? And that's a big deal for me, but boy, this is something really, really, really special."
"I Drive Your Truck" is featured on Lee's album, Hard 2 Love , now in stores and online.
