HASTINGS, MI (WKZO) -- Harold Ordway has been the prime suspect in twin killings ever since a blood soaked mattress was found in the bed of his pick-up truck after a fender bender in southern Allegan County two years ago. Investigators just haven’t been able to prove it. Now they apparently think they can, but they aren’t saying what new evidence they have.
He was charged Tuesday in Barry County District court on an open murder charge, a felony gun count and being a repeat offender.
Prosecutors also suspect that he killed another man, Michael VanBuskirk, who shared a Battle Creek Apartment with him, and whose body was found in southern Kalamazoo County. The body was too badly decomposed to determine the cause of death.
Ordway is being held on over half a million dollars bond. Ordway is awaiting sentencing next month in federal court for being a felon in possession of a gun, the one charge they were able to make stick after the day they found that bloody mattress in his truck. Federal prosecutors have argued he should get the max because he was a suspect in the two murders, but the defense argued he hasn’t been charged with either killing. Now he has.
