VIDEO: Radio personality Lori Moore receives honors for commitment to community

KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Lori Moore, Kalamazoo’s beloved morning show host, and Al Jones, columnist for the Kalamazoo Gazette, were recognized Thursday evening for their outstanding commitment to broadcasting and local news.

Moore and Jones received the Tony Griffin Golden Word Award given out during a banquet held by InterCom at The Fetzer Center. InterCom is an association of professional communicators, based in Kalamazoo and each year recognizes communicators who have made significant contributions to the field of professional communications in Southwest Michigan. Watch above for more.

Moore and Jones also received a legislative resolution signed by Gov. Rick Snyder and Rep. Sean McCann recognizing their achievements.

Prior to the InterCom banquet, Moore was also recognized at the CHAMPS Awards ceremony held Thursday at Cityscape in downtown Kalamazoo. The CHAMPS Awards were presented by Communities in Schools of Kalamazoo to recognize individuals for their exceptional volunteer work with Kalamazoo Public Schools.

Moore was given a CHAMPS Award for pioneering the Lori Moore Corps that provides students with a volunteer tutor committed to providing help in all academic areas throughout the entire school year.

“We thought we’d have maybe ten to fifteen volunteer tutors,” Lori said, “But when we had over seventy people show up to offer their help, it was extremely moving.” The Lori Moore Corps began with a call to action for WKZO listeners to attend the initial orientation and has grown from there.
