KALAMAZOO, MI (WTVB) - 1,500 Malaysian students from 49 universities in the U.S. and Canada are boarding planes and hitting the road today after spending the weekend on the Western Michigan University campus, participating in the Malaysian Midwest Games International 2013. Every year the Games are held at a different university, and this year it was WMU’s turn to host the event.
They came from as far away as Florida, Arizona, California and British Columbia to compete in a variety of athletic events, making use of the university’s various facilities. They competed in track and field, tennis, racquetball, volleyball, soccer basketball, badminton, table tennis, bowling and a Malaysian game called sepak takraw.
The Ambassador from Malaysia spent the weekend in Kalamazoo, presiding over the games.
