LANSING, MI (WTVB) - Former Michigan Supreme Court Justice Diane Hathaway has been sentenced to a year in jail and 2-years of supervised release for bank fraud. Hathaway hid assets by transferring a home to an adult child, so she could short sell a home in Michigan. Her attorney argued that she had already been humiliated enough, having to give up her seat on the high court, her law and her real estate licenses.
Prosecutors argued she should be sentenced for what she did, not who she is. Hathaway was also ordered to pay $90,000 dollars restitution.
