KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Enbridge appears to have found a way to dredge the river delta in Morrow Pond, if the Kalamazoo County Board is willing to rent one of their parks.
The pipeline firm has been unable to come to terms with Comstock Township on a site for a dredge pad.
Today they will ask the Kalamazoo County Board to expedite a deal to use River Oaks Park as a staging area to fill tanker trucks with contaminated sludge.
It will then be trucked to an existing dredge pad in Calhoun County for processing.Spokesman Jason Manshum says time is running out. They only have until the end of the year to remove the sludge from the river bottom. The County Parks department would get 100-thousand dollars cash and a promise from Enbridge to repair any damage done by the big trucks.
Parks director David Rachowicz says the park will remain open to the public, but doesn’t get that much use this time of the year anyway.
