(WNFL) - The Wisconsin women's soccer team was eliminated from the Big Ten Tournament yesterday, with a 2-nothing loss to Penn State in the quarter-finals at Illinois. All four tournament contests yesterday were moved to a different turf, after high winds and rain created rough field conditions at the Illini's normal soccer complex in Champaign. Taylor Schram and Tami Costa scored both of Penn State's goals in the first half. Emily Hurd has assists for both. The loss dropped the Badgers to 10-7-and-2. Penn State moved on to the semi-finals after improving to 14-5-and-1.
Wisconsin cross country runner Malachy Schrobilgen received two post-season awards from the Big Ten Conference yesterday. The suburban Chicago native was named the league's Athlete-of-the-Year and Freshman-of-the-Year, after he placed first in the conference meet last weekend. Schrobilgen became only the third Badger to win the freshman honors since they were first given out in 1987. He's also the 11th Wisconsin runner in the last 16 years to receive the top athletic award. Schrobilgen is also the first Badger to win both awards in the same season.
