KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Monday evening will be a time for fresh starts, a passing of the torch, and a few new faces at Kalamazoo City Hall, as the six incumbents and the one new commissioner, Jack Urban will be sworn in for new terms.
It will be the 50th City Commission sworn in since the city adopted its City Charter and the Manager form of city government.
It’s also expected to be the first night that new City Manager Jim Ritsema will serve in that position at an evening meeting since he agreed to contract terms last month. He will also be sworn in.
There will also be tributes to departing Vice Mayor Hannah McKinney who chose not to run for reelection, and Manager Ken Collard who decided to take advantage of the city’s early retirement program, and make room for someone new to run the city’s day to day operations.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m.
