BATTLE CREEK (WKZO) -- The students at Lakeview Middle School lost a classmate over the weekend when 12-year-old Caitlyn Jackson died of Leukemia. .
Monday when a number of her friends responded by wearing shirts with her name printed on them, school officials forced them to either take them off or turn them inside out.
They said the shirts were a distraction.
The students protested, parents were outraged, including Melinda Jackson, Caitlyn’s mother who held a meeting with school officials yesterday to hash out the issue.
School officials issued a statement, apologizing and saying they are reviewing their Crisis Management Policy, and will let Caitlyn’s friends wear their shirts.
