AMES, IOWA (WTVB) - 7th ranked Michigan slipped up on the road yesterday, going cold down the stretch in a 77-to-70 loss at Iowa State. The defeat dropped the Wolverines to 2-and-1 while the upset kept the Cyclones unbeaten at 3-and-0. Michigan missed seven shots in-a-row in the final two minutes to allow Iowa State to put the game away. The loss spoiled the return of star big man Mitch McGary, who sat out the Wolverine’s first two games of the season with a lower back injury. McGary finished with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals in 22 minutes of play.

Nik Stauskas paced the Wolverines with 20 points and six assists. Michigan returns to action Thursday, meeting Long Beach State in the first round of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.

Also in college hoops Sunday, Western Michigan held on to defeat Alabama A-&-M 73-69 to improve to 3-and-1. Shayne Whittington scored 22 points and pulled down 17 rebounds in the win for the Broncos in their home opener.
