COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports, tryouts and practices begin today for boys basketball and wrestling as the transition from the fall to the winter season events continues. The winter season for county teams starts in two weeks when the girls basketball season tips off.

The MHSAA fall season state tournament schedule is wrapping up with the final week of volleyball on tap with the quarterfinals tomorrow night and then the final four begins at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the fourth round of the football playoffs is coming up with Saturday’s semifinals leading to the eight title games Friday and Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend at Ford Field in Detroit. Three teams in the area survived this past weekend’s regionals finals. In Division 3, Stevensville Lakeshore, which eliminated Coldwater three weeks ago in pre-district play, advanced with a 34-7 win over Byron Center. In Division 7, Big Eight Conference Champion Homer moved on by defeating Decatur 26-15. And in Division 2, SMAC West Champion Portage Central doubled up Farmington Hills Harrison 42-21.

Today on the Coaches Corner, we’ll set the Coldwater coaches lineup for winter sports and preview the early season schedules for boys and girls basketball, wrestling and gymnastics
