UNDATED (WKZO) -- The AMERICAN Red Cross is opening emergency shelters in six west Michigan Counties at the request of local authorities who say there may be some without heat or anyway to prepare food for the next few days because of power outages.
Shelters have been opened at the Red Cross headquarters in Battle Creek on Beadle Lake Road and in Kalamazoo at their facility on Venture Court in Oshtemo.
Spokesperson Kelly Hudson says they can supply some things but some items you will need to bring, like a change of clothing, prescription medications, favorite pillows and blankets, and any products to care for infants.
They have also opened shelters in St. Joseph, Berrien, Kent and Ionia counties.
Kalamazoo’s Metro Transit System will be offering free bus rides to the Red Cross Shelter on Venture Court in Oshtemo, according to City Manager Jim Ritsema. He says just ask the driver of Route Eleven to take you there, or the dispatcher if you use the Kalamazoo Connect Service.
